Vocalia App Reviews

Say the whole name

Works great for me. Nearly 100% if I speak the full name of the contact. Loaded slowly on the first launch, but then seemed to be ready within a second or two on successive launches. I suspect it might need to reindex after changes to the contact database. The shake-to-retry gesture is intuitive. 2.0 is quite usable, and its only going to get better.

Does Not Work!

I purchased this thinking finally a voice dial app that may work and well! Nothing, does not find what i say at all.

Too slow, doesnt work well

Too slow and doesnt work well. Even after editing the phonetizations it only brought in the correct name half the time. I wanted it to make me faster at finding a contact. Instead it (the app itself) ran too slow and it took multiple tries to get the right contact. Just frustrated me. Removing the app. Want money back.

Took 15 seconds to load, then crashed

Disappointing experience after reading the more positive review.

I know you want it, but DONT DO IT!

Just got it. Tried it 12 times and it has not recognized a name one single time. I so wish I could get my money back!

Works as advertised

Its not perfect but I find that saying both the first and last name greatly increases its accuracy. It would be even better if you could give voice commands to select and dail from the results so that it doesnt have to be touched at all (especially when Im driving). In fact, that would make it a five star app in my book. Make it happen, Creaceed.

Its excellent

It beats scrolling for numbers by a long shot. Its a great beginning. With updates skys the limit. This option should come stock with the iPhone and a video recorder should come stock too. Thanks for this app. Id spend 4 bucks again. For those having crash problems update your phone to 2.1 and reboot your phone on occassion. To reboot hold down the sleep and the home buttons at the same time until the Apple logo appears.

Doesnt auto dial phone numbers

Major turn off if only finds names but doesnt dial them. I need to say call "contact" and expect that contact to appear and then actually call

Very good app

Works great, loads very fast for me. Beautiful graphics and the ability to just shake the phone to do another voice call is nice. If you arent getting good accuracy, go into the setting and add some additinal phonetic fields...it makes all the difference. Its the most responsive voice app Ive found so far....it really is a contact finder as it wont actually make the call, but with good accuracy, its faster than scrolling through hundreds of contacts while driving, and when your contacts have multiple numbers like mine do, its nice to say their name and boom, have all their separate numbers a single click away....if they do figure out a way to direct dial based on the category of phone number (ie mobile vs home vs work, etc) that will be a great update. but for now, this is finding my numbers really well, and now with so many apps living in the store, its nice to populate our iphone screens with nicely created icons over the horrid ones that are still around. In fact, if anyone needs great icon designs for their apps they are building, hit me up at fusion-multimedia.com. Send me an email and we can make your app icon pop like this one and so many others.....very nice developers...keep updating and making this more efficient. A great start to say the least. Would be 5 star if it dialed your numbers as well. The UI makes it a 4 1/2. BTW, I suspect the people who write reviews that apps dont work and give one stars have no clue....in fact, what are you doing with an iphone. You are the same people who cant get their computers to work either...constantly calling the savvy people to install apps, make email work again, reinstall operating systems and on and on....do you even understand technology?? There is no way an app crashes a phone and does not work at all...I suspect youve buggered up your iphone already on your own. This is a computer that happens to have a phone in it...so treat it like a laptop. Ever install an application on your computer and had to reinstall it or reboot to get it to function 100%?? Our iphones are just the same. Also, if you quick naysayers would take 5 minutes to see how an app works before tearing it down, it might do you some good. There are addition phonetic fields you can add to Vocalia, and that pretty much gave me 100% accuracy on all names....everyone is so quick to dismiss an app without knowing squat. Developers....you guys have a great product here and I only hope you keep making it more robust....

Needs a lot of improvement

I bought this application based on some reviews that mentioned how good it is. Vocalia has had an extremely low accuracy rate in its results when I use it. I have stopped using this app as it is easier to look someone up directly from the contacts app.

Another on-board voice dialer that doesnt work

I have paid for and downloaded most of the on-board voice dialing apps including Vocalia, Cactus, Voice This and Fonix iSpeak. Simply, none of them do the job. It’s a mix between not working at all and doing an overall poor job. I have just over 1000 contacts on my phone; you could say I am the dead on target user for voice dialing. I downloaded the Fonix iSpeak product today. It would not load at all. I got a progress bar once showing it was processing my 1000 contacts and then crash. I don’t even get the progress bar now, it just ends and goes back to the home screen. The Vocalia product seems to do okay with recognizing most of my names but is more of a visual game than a real voice dialer. It offers none of the value a voice phone dialer should, like dialing. Cactus crashes on starting, just like the Fonix product. When I restart it, I get asked if I want to send a crash report. But even when I say yes to that, that crashes. Voice This at least attempts to work right, but it tells me it can only process about 700 of my contacts, 300 are “unrecognizable names”. You get no help on how to fix the “unrecognizable names”. Even the list of the names is not presented in alphabetical order. If you have a large number of contacts and want features of a real dialer, don’t look at these embedded products.

Love it!!

A little slow loading. . . but works great. Lots of fun!!!

Crashes and no fix from developer

The app has been crashing from the beginning. I emailed the company (which seems like a good company) and the response was "try omitting punctuation marks from your contacts in your address book." Instead, I installed the free app called, "Say Who," which works like a charm.

My results are very different from the people who gave it one star.

This "IS" a great application. It does find the names 90% of the time. At least in my case. Results are improved if you say first and last name and speak clearly. Also, you always have the option of creating additional phonetizations if it is having difficulties recognizing the name you are pronouncing. Again, in my case, it was accurate almost all the time. My issue with the app are that it takes too long for it to be ready to listen for a name and Id like it to automatically dial the name once it is recognized. This will be possible when you can assign a main number and have it dial that one when you speak a specific name. Right now, Im very happy with the app and the developers have been very responsive.

Nice graphics, but works really poorly

I bought Vocalia a while back. Test after test it fails to even come close. It has nice graphics, but who cares if the intended product barely works. I though it was going to at least work. But, I deleted this one today, Ill be using a Free Dialer "say w..". That one doesnt upload to any server, nor have special graphics, but it does work well. I have no time to play with this as I drive around, and after dismal results, most the time have to dial the number manually. Save your time, and your money. Maybe one day theyll get this thing to work. If you like a squiggly little line that reacts to sound, this is your product. If your looking for a Dialer, this thing works more like a magic 8 ball.

Just What I Needed

Im quite impressed with Vocalia as a 1.0 application. It was loaded and ready within a few seconds, but not immediately (I have approximately 350 contacts). When I was in a mostly quiet environment, it nailed the voice recognition every time. In a restaurant, it was about 80%, but still better than I thought it would. I have set up a few alternate "Phonetizations" and they make difficult names very easy to identify verbally. Well worth the introductory $3.99.

Amazing

Flawless, it got every contact I tried (about 20) on the first attempt. This is the one youve been looking for. ***update*** Not sure, but some of the bad reviewers might have possible speech impediments? This app works perfectly for me nearly every time, even in a noisy car.

Crashes, wont work if more than 1,000 contacts in your Address Book

Sounds great, prior reviews sound great, but unfortunately it crashes my iPhone 3G every time. I turned the phone off and on again too. When I launch the application, the screen goes black except for the top line with the time, battery charge, and carrier. After perhaps 6-10 seconds, the app crashes and the normal home screen appears. Ill be asking for a refund, and will gladly buy it again once it actually works. (After writing this review, Vocalia tech support replied to my email on Oct. 1st; their app does not work if you have more than 1,000 contacts and they are planning a new version in 2-3 weeks which should address this problem)

Not so good...

I just bought version 2.0 and tried it out, hoping it would work nearly as good as Apples voice control for 3GS, but it doesnt detect what I say, I say "Coldplay clocks" and it gives results from a totally different artist. Im hoping this will be fixed in the next release.

I Would Like My Money Back!!!!!!

Having used Voice Dial prior to 3.0 (wont work with 3.0). I am use to an app that UNDERSTANDS a name when you say it. I had high hopes for this app when I read the description. It fell short in every way. I asked Creaceed for a refund and I hope to receive one. What a waste of $3.99!
